Frozen Skies, Frozen Lives: a wartime journey to Siberia

War is hell" was a statement uttered by Union General Sherman in the States' Civil War. No truer words were ever spoken. Hell, indeed. WWII was even more so for the Jews of Poland, particularly those who stayed in their home countries.Having been invaded by the Nazis, the Jews were herded into ghettoes, bereft of any sustenance, dying in the streets or Concentration Camps. People who were circumspect fled. One of those people was Julek Bryl, who had the foresight to abandon his home and escape. This is his story, a story of courage in the face of vulnerability, uncertainty and danger. His situation was centred around deportation, exile and tragedy. However, through his charm, undying optimism and effective skills, he prevailed. This historical fiction paints a vivid picture of the personal pre- and post-war period in Julek's life. We are also introduced to a woman who is also exposed to similar circumstances. Chance brings the two together, resulting in their growth as characters through their shared experiences and love.

Untold Story: a memoir

                               (kindle version)

Untold Story traces the life of Rachel, a woman shaped by the shadows of her mother Sylvia’s Holocaust survival and the weight of inherited trauma. Sylvia's unresolved pain manifests as anger, leaving Rachel to carry emotional scars of her own—including debilitating panic attacks and the heartbreaking loss of a child.

Set against the backdrop of Rachel’s enduring love for Israel, this memoir explores her journey through displacement, identity, and longing. As Rachel attempts to build a life of purpose and authenticity, her romantic relationships both mirror and challenge her inner world—offering glimpses of connection while often leading to disappointment.

In this deeply personal narrative, Ruth Bryl unearths the silence between generations, the complexity of love, and the resilience it takes to claim one’s truth.
